JOINING - WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?
borrow up to 25 items at any one time

  • It's completely FREE to borrow up to 25 of the following items - books, talking books on cassette, cd and MP3, fiction books, non-fiction books, large print books, adults' books, children's books.  You initially borrow them for 3 weeks.  If no-one else wants them after this time you can renew them again and again and again ... until someone else wants them, or you have had them for a year!
  • It's completely FREE to join and you will receive your own personal credit card style membership card which you need to bring to the library every time you come.  If you don't bring your card you will only be able to borrow 2 items.  If you do lose your card and can't find it (They usually turn up somewhere!  Often in a book!) you will need to ask for a new one.  The first replacement card for children is free of charge.  Then it costs £1 to replace a child's card,  £1.50 for over 60s and £2 for adults aged between 16 and 59.
  • Anyone can join - from age 1 day to 120 years ...
  • Borrow e-books (4 per person) and e-audio books (2 per person) on top of your normal allowance.
  • No fines and charges on books that are returned late which have been borrowed on children's (under 16s) and senior citizen's (over 60s) library cards.  (There is an exception to this.  If items are very late - over 2 months - an invoice is automatically raised by Bradford Council for the cost of the books.  If the books are returned, this charge is removed but you will still have to pay an admin fee for the work done in creating and sending the invoice)
  • Request DVDs from other libraries.  There is a weekly hire charge for these for all members.  If DVDs are returned late all members pay fines.
  • Use the public computers, internet and Microsoft Office package completely FREE of charge.  Black and white A4 printing costs 10p per sheet.
  • Attend regular library activities.
  • Reserve any item that is on the Bradford Libraries' catalogue completely free of charge and get it delivered to Burley Library.
  • Ask us to buy new books for you to borrow that we don't already have in Bradford for only £1.  This is subject to them still being in print and available from our stock suppliers.
  • Use your library card in any of the libraries in the Bradford network.  The nearest libraries to Burley that are currently open are Ilkley, Addingham (also volunteer run) and Baildon (hybrid).  But you can also use Shipley, Keighley, City, Bingley, Manningham, Eccleshill, and on, and on, and on ....  You can borrow books in other Bradford libraries and bring them back to us.  You can borrow from us and take them back to them ... whatever is easiest for you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO JOIN?

  • Come in to Burley Library when we are open and complete a short form for each person who wants to join.  Please try to bring some form of id with you which contains your address.  If you are new to the area you can still join but you will only be able to use the public computers and borrow up to 2 items until we have proof of your new address.
  • Fill in an online form by clicking on the picture below. The online form will open in a new tab and take you to Bradford Libraries' joining page.  You will leave Burley Library's website and will need to click back or return to the previous tab to get back to Burley.
  • When completing the form, make sure you select Burley Library as the library that you wish to collect your card from.  Once the online form has been processed (by a person!) you will receive an email asking you to come and collect your membership card from Burley Library.
